| Little Hands Preschool is not just a daycare with a few educational toys in a "classroom". Little Hands Preschool's classroom is modeled after Maria Montessori's concept of a "prepared environment". The classroom materials are organized by subject and placed on beautiful hardwood shelves. The classroom is brightly lit by natural sunlight, incandescent general wash bulbs, and thoughtfully placed designer spot light fixtures. Even though we are a home based preschool, our classroom is fully equipped with all the materials found in expensive Montessori preschool centers. In total we have spent over $15,000 equipping and furnishing our classroom. The reason is that the Montessori method seeks to have children be self directed in their learning. By having a beautiful environment and materials, children are drawn by their natural curiosity to explore the materials. This period of exploration is followed by intense concentration and repetition of activity until the material is mastered. A messy, unorganized classroom with cheap materials and furnishings simply doesn't capture children's imagination and attention the same way. There were cheaper ways we could have started our preschool, but we think you and your child will appreciate the wonderful prepared environment waiting for your child each day.
